inspire to...

Hey guys, sorry for not posting so often, I've been enjoying the sun and gettin' creative!   It's been REALLY hot here this past week, like I can barely sleep hot and the last thing I want to do is put the oven on.  Let's say I do have air conditioning, but 'oh, no you can't touch it!'  Not cool!   So  I'm in a jewelry making craze at the moment... where I whipped up these little treasures. Plus check out these sweet honey sticks I found on a stroll into David's Tea.  Aren't they cool? Imagine adding one of these to you're favorite hot drink?  Plus they come in all sorts of different honey's and the clear one's are flavored Agave nectar, I choose coconut and lime to try!
Hope you're all having a superb weekend!

it's all about the cupcakes

A friend of mine had me do up a few batches of cupcakes for a bank gathering. She allowed me to make any flavors I wish.  I went crazy! When I saw these candied lemon slices at the bulk food store... I knew I would then do a lemon cupcake... aren't the lemon slices just cute?
Cupcakes for a friend... include: lemony fresh cloud-like coconut triple chocolate truffle 'rich' vanilla chocolate very vanilla
Have a great weekend everyone! Check out this cute little cupcake shop in Toronto.

craving the classic

Okay, so I was craving apple pie. Not only the taste and all the goodness that apple pie conjures up, but the smell. I just wanted to smell the holy goodness that only apples, cinnamon, and pastry can attempt... I know most of us are in the mists of summer and apple pie seems like such a wintery comfort, but  I seemingly just couldn't help myself.I'm not going to post the recipe for this one since I'm sure you all have a old time favorite lurking in you're kitchen somewhere and on the other hand mine was a little bit of a flop. How you ask? Well lets just say I'm not an expert on making crust edges and mine decided to droop and creep around the pan.  I did follow Jamie Oliver's recipe for short crust pastry and it couldn't have been easier. I'm not going to blame Jamie for this one... it was a no fail crust that I managed to forget to put in the fridge to firm.  I think  eagerness got in the way.

In my attempt to get crafty: project number 2
I will admit I'm a avid thrift store wonder, always in search of a great or unique find.  I came across these embroidery hoops, which I seem to see on a regular basis, and remembered something in a magazine or random blog post, I can't remember... but they used pieces of left over fabric to create some pretty cool cheap wall art.  These here probably only cost me a whopping $4... now that's some sweet cheapt art!  I know these are a bit on the retro side, but one of the things I seem to pick up on my thrift shop travels is old retro bedsheets. There is some serious crazy patterns and amazing colours... and endless things to do with them!

summer sweets

Just some beach gathering sweets...
  Happy weekend all!

super rich chocolate sandwich cookies*

Hi everyone,  here's just a little treat I whipped up for my neighbor for cutting our lawn the other day.  I was so great-full for the hard work and since I am a owner of a push-mower which really doesn't cut all that well... and well takes forever! I  figured these little super-good chocolate sandwich cookies would do the job! These little jems came from a book called entertaining simple. It has some great recipes and amazing photo's. The photo's alone would make you buy the book.
1 stick butter (cut up) 1/2 cup confectioner's sugar 1 cup all-purpose flour 5 tsp cornstarch 2 tbsp cocoa powder 2 large eggs chocolate ganache 7 (1-ounce) squares bittersweet chocolate 1/2 heavy cream 3 tbsp unsalted butter 3 tbsp brandy
1. Prepare the cookie dough: In a food processor, combine all ingredients and process until a soft dough forms.  Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate  for 30min. 2. Preheat oven to 350 F. Line a baking sheet with Parchment. 3. Roll tablespoons of do…
